- Description:
- Built with performance in mind, this simple system can generate clouds of any shape without sacrificing speed. Anything that can be rendered to a render texture can also be rendered as clouds, including meshes, procedural shaders and even other render textures.
Features:
* Dynamic shapes
+ Render clouds of any shape, including meshes
* Management through Monobehaviours
+ Control what clouds look like through in-game objects that can easily interact with other objects
+ Uses hierarchy to determine which objects render first
+ You can easily create another layer of the effect by simply adding or duplicating it
* Automatic layer sorting
+ Multiple instances of the effect are sorted automatically based on cloud height
+ Alternatively, it can be manually adjusted through the order field
* Optimized for performance
+ Minimal performance impact on modern phones and most desktops from the past decade
* Simple and easy to use
+ Right-click the hierarchy and select \"Shaped Clouds/Clouds Controller\" to get started
* Customization
+ All shaders are replaceable
+ A variety of settings to change the appearance of clouds without needing to rewrite anything
+ A few CC0 noise textures included as examples of more unique and interesting shapes for clouds
Limitations:
* It's a 2D effect
+ Doesn't cast or receive any shadows
+ May appear flat
+ Noise might be visible
* Relative to the camera
+ Moving through or above the clouds is impossible
+ Clouds do appear to stay in place as the camera moves horizontally, but are always kept the same distance vertically
* Background focused
+ Distant objects can still render behind clouds, but it's not optimized to look realistic for these situations
Includes documentation explaining how to get started and simple demos showing some of the features and example usage. - Technical Details:
- Works with Windows 10, Linux, Web and Android, all compiled from Windows 10. NOT tested on Apple devices, may not work or have major issues. Supports Unity 2022 and 6, will not work on older versions.
